Weight Loss and Exercise More Effective Than Drugs For Type 2 Diabetes
A recent study was conducted of type 2 diabetes patients whereby half took part in a 16-week healthy lifestyle course, and the remaining half did not. Those who completed the course were found to have healthier blood sugar levels, no need to increase their diabetic medication and were found to lose a significant amount more weight over the following 3 years than those who didn’t partake. The individuals who completed the course were also 50% less likely to see their condition progress.
Over the following 3 years after course completion, the patients lost on average a further 1.25st. Those who didn’t take part, lost on average 2lbs. It was found that if a patient lost at least 11lbs, they experienced a significant reduction in their blood sugar levels.
These findings not only highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the improvements it can make to your health without the need for medication, but also the long-term changes that can be made through re-education.
