"The thing I’ve found fantastic is the food, there are so many options.  It’s so tasty, that’s the big plus for me. " Simon Cartter

Siobhan Hall - I am not missing the foods I have cut out of my diet.

Since having Harry I had not been able to lose any weight and my weight has remained constant for 2 years. I thought it would have come off by now and expected it to be much easier to lose. Even with the programme the weight came off really slowly. I was disappointed because I had heard of such positive and quick results. I did expect the weight loss effect to happen a lot quicker than it did. Before I began the programme I used to think about food a lot but when I started my 6 week programme I found I was all consumed with the thought of food and all of a sudden it seemed to take over my life. I didn’t want it to take over my life!

Then I got into the planning and organising and once I got all of that in place the whole process was a lot lot easier. By the end of the programme it’s still taking me a little while to plan what we are going to eat but the good news is I am getting into the swing of that and aware that it is becoming habitual. Also I am not missing the foods I have cut out of my diet. I thought I would but that has been really easy.

The main issue for me is that my weight loss has been very slow, it seemed to take an age to get started. I have found this frustrating because, like most people, I want it to happen quickly. I think that I have to come to terms with the fact that my body is more reluctant than most to give up it’s fat. However, my weight loss did finally begin to happen and I am now 41/2 pounds lighter than I was 6 weeks ago.

I have to understand things before I make changes and this programme has been an education.

Even though I have felt frustrated at times I can say it has definitely been worth it and I have noticed the benefits. Yesterday we were at an all-day christening and I was not in control of the foods I was eating and I felt rubbish. There were sandwiches, bread which I haven’t eaten for 6 weeks. I felt really bloated and sluggish with stomach cramps and tummy ache.

It has absolutely been a worthwhile exercise because I considered myself to be quite healthy but I’ve learned a lot about the foods I eat and this has changed my outlook.

In future I want the diet just to be the way I eat and will be introducing more regular exercise. We bought a new all-terrain pushchair for our son and I will be taking him out in this regularly for walks and short runs.

My real problem is when I’ve gone off plan which can happen when I haven’t had time to eat. My automatic default position up until now has been a sandwich which I now know is not the answer; salad is. We are so used to our conditioning around food; making a sandwich because we believe it is quick and easy when actually throwing a salad together is even quicker. I am working on changing my mind-set.

For me this has worked better than Slimmer’s World or Weight Watchers because I don’t believe I would have been given all the information I needed to help me make informed food choices.

My only other real challenge is that as a vegetarian I am happy to eat fish but I struggle to eat it often. I understand that eating this low fat protein source will help me to lose weight but I don’t enjoy it and therefore I have to come to terms with my weight loss being slower. Now I understand that it’s okay.
